Lavon Williams - Division Head, Research and Practice

Lavon Williams received her Ph.D. in exercise and sport science from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She is currently an associate professor in and chair of the Sport Studies Department at Guilford College. Her research focuses on self-perceptions and motivational processes within achievement contexts involving adolescent and young adult physical activity participants. Dr. Williams has been a member of AAPHERD since 1989 and is a Fellow of the Research Consortium. She has served on the NAGWS Board of Directors NAGWS as Vice President of Research (2001-2004). In her capacity as the Secretary of the Research Consortium (RC), she chaired the RC Credentials Committee and served on the RC’s Operating Guideline, Finance Committees. Additionally, she has served on the RC Ethics and Future Directions Committees.

She is currently on the editorial board for Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES) and Measurement in Physical Education and Exercise Science. She has served as an associate editor of the AASP Newsletter, a psychology section editor for RQES, and editorial board member of The Sport Psychologist and Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal, and a guest reviewer for the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, Psychology of Sport and Exercise among others.
