Workshop Overview:
• Traditional approaches to sport injury rehabilitation follow well established protocols. Typically, rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries is an active process with the athlete intimately involved.
• Concussions present a challenge to injured athletes, sports medicine personnel and sport psychologists. Current approaches to concussions involve a recovery rather than rehabilitation protocol. Psychological implications for the recovery process after a concussion are markedly different than those for musculoskeletal injury rehabilitation.
• Identification of differing psychological reactions to both situations will be provided. Through case histories, small group discussion and group reporting, participants will gain an understanding of the psychological needs and interventions for concussion recovery.

Workshop Overview:
• The objective of the workshop is to experientially introduce the participants to the application of mindfulness with Olympic caliber athletes.
• The target audience are sport psychology consultants who have an interest in incorporating mindfulness in their work with Olympic caliber athletes.
• The workshop will alternate between various experiential mindfulness exercises (e.g. mindful sitting, walking, eating), ranging from 3 to 40 minutes, group reflections and didactic presentations of the relevant literature.
• The didactic presentation will also address the strategies, challenges and obstacles encountered in teaching mindfulness to US Olympians and address the importance of developing and maintaining personal practice in mindfulness.

• This workshop will focus on sport psychology techniques applied to athletes and coaches in a variety of levels and sports.
• The presentation will be broken down into six basic areas including mental skills training for enhanced performance, gaining entry with a team, assessment of the situation, implementation of the program, evaluation of program effectiveness, and potential pitfalls of sport psychology consultation.
• The importance of the consultant’s experiential knowledge, preparation, and flexibility to adapt with the situation will be stressed.
• Additionally, each area will be discussed from the young practitioner perspective to provide new consultants with additional point of view.
• Finally, strategies for developing and maintaining one’s capabilities and effectiveness in the constantly changing conditions of sports psychology consulting will be addressed.

Workshop Overview:
• This workshop provides a unique experience for sport psychology consultants, both performance enhancement specialists and clinical/counseling psychologists, to gain essential knowledge and skills in order to respond with a high standard of care to critical incidents in their sporting community.
• Given their significant leadership role, this workshop is also well-suited for coaches and medical personnel.
• While primarily didactic, it also will include case study materials.
• There are three learning modules of approximate equal duration: A. Essential concepts in psychological trauma; B. Crisis Intervention Strategies (including both individual and group interventions); C. Critical Incident and Response in Sport.
• The primary goal of this continuing education workshop is to provide a unique training opportunity for consultants to increase their knowledge and further refine their skills with regard to the domain of crisis intervention and psychological trauma in sport so that they may best serve as consultants in a time of crisis.

• In this workshop, participants will discuss effective assessment procedures, learn how to tailor programs to fit different needs, and practice communication skills to support motivation and adherence in older adults.
