“”Chris Bader is a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, TX. I have been involved with AASP since arriving at UNT and have enjoyed being both a student member and now a regional representative. Before coming to UNT I received my Master’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and my Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University. While at UNT, I have been involved in both the sport psychology and counseling psychology sides of our program. I enjoy the mixture we have here and I have enjoyed working in a number of different settings. I have accrued most of my sport psychology applied hours working with two different teams on the UNT campus. As mentioned, I enjoy the counseling psychology part of our program just as much and have accrued hours in two different counseling centers, as well as our community-based psychology clinic. As part of our program we are required to complete a 2000-hour pre-doctoral internship in professional psychology.

Next year I will be completing my pre-doctoral internship at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Norman, OK. This internship is unique in that it is housed in a consortium but offers a primary rotation in Sport Psychology through the OU Athletics Department. As the intern assigned primarily to the Athletics Department, I will spend approximately 24 hours a week housed in athletics. I will be supervised by Dr. Nicki Moore, and will be involved in counseling and assessment of athletes. Additionally, I will be responsible for developing and working with team-centered and outreach workshops, administration, consultation, research and supervision. OU has been very open-minded with regard to their acceptance and inclusion of sport psychology, and I am very excited to be a part of such an environment.
