Tracy Olrich
Dr. Tracy Olrich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Education and Sport at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He received his bachelor of science degree in 1984 from Central Michigan University, his master of arts degree in 1990 and his doctoral degree in 1995, both from Michigan State University.
Dr. Olrich has been at Central Michigan University since 2000 where he teaches courses in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport Sociology, Sport Philosophy, Measurement and Evaluation, and Strength and Conditioning. He also serves as the sport psychology consultant for several athletic teams on the CMU campus providing workshops and consulting with individual athletes. Previous to his position at CMU, he had teaching positions at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Before entering academe, Tracy coached football and served as the strength coach at Alma College in Alma, Michigan.
Tracy’s research examines the topic of ergogenic aid use in athletics, which he has been studying for well over a decade. During that time he has interviewed people about their experiences concerning a variety of ergogenic aids including anabolic steroids, creatine and androstenedione. He has several publications on this topic and has made over 40 presentations to both the scholarly and lay communities concerning the issue.
Tracy has been interviewed extensively concerning anabolic steroid and performance enhancing drug use, and his quotes have appeared in newspapers and other media outlets around the world. He has provided expert testimony concerning anabolic steroid use and the adolescent to the Michigan House of Representatives and the Michigan Senate and has been consulted concerning legislation in the state. He has also consulted with the Michigan High School Athletic Association concerning anabolic steroid use at the high school level.
