Dr. Nohelani (Lani) Lawrence is the Director of Wellness and Clinical Services at the New York Football Giants. She was previously a clinical and sport psychologist at the University of Southern California. At USC she provided performance consulting services and mental health support to 21 elite NCAA Division-I teams. She taught as an adjunct professor for USC’s Freshman Seminar. Additionally, she serves as a member of the USATF sport psychology group.
Lani is a licensed psychologist in the State of California, and a Certified Mental Performance Consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CMPC). She is active in multiple professional organizations including American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). She was recently appointed as the Membership Service Division Head of AASP’s Executive Board. Previously, she served AASP as an At-Large-Member of the Executive Board Strategic Planning Committee and Student Practice Award Committee Student Member.
For APA Division 47 (Exercise and Sport Psychology), she was selected as a Practice Committee Student Representative. Her research background includes authorship in several peer-reviewed journals (Pediatrics, SAMHSA, & Substance Abuse). She has given several domestic and international presentations on the unique challenges faced by LGBT student-athletes and multiple-minority identity.
In 2012, Lani earned a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Sport Psychology from the University of Denver. She then went on to complete her post-doctoral fellowship at USC’s Student Counseling Services and Athletic Department. Previously, she received her Ed.M. in Counseling Psychology, with emphasis in Sport Psychology from Boston University in 2008 and B.S. in Psychology from Northeastern University in 2002.
