Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) Program Earns NCCA Reaccreditation, Reinforcing CMPC as the Premier Credential in Mental Performance

The Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and Canadian Sport Psychology Association / Association Canadienne de Psychologie du Sport (CSPA-ACPS) are proud to announce that the Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) certification program has successfully earned reaccreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). This reaccreditation recognizes the CMPC program’s continued adherence to rigorous national standards for professional certification in service to the public and mental performance communities.

The CMPC certification remains the only NCCA-accredited certification for mental performance consultants in North America, reflecting AASP and CSPA’s ongoing commitment to excellence, quality assurance, and public protection in the applied sport and performance psychology field. Accreditation by the NCCA, the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.), signifies that the CMPC program meets or exceeds the nationally recognized Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs — benchmarks designed to uphold fairness, validity, reliability, and best practices in professional certification.

What This Means for Professionals and the Public

Reaccreditation confirms that individuals holding the CMPC credential have met vetted eligibility criteria, including advanced academic preparation, mentored experience, passage of a comprehensive certification examination, commitment to ethical practice, and engagement in ongoing professional development. CMPCs are qualified to train athletes, performers, coaches, teams, and other high-performing individuals to develop mental skills that enhance confidence, focus, resilience under pressure, and consistency across competitive and performance contexts.

“CMPC certification sets the highest professional standard in mental performance consulting,” said CMPC Certification Council Chair Marc Cormier. “Securing NCCA reaccreditation validates the program’s quality and integrity, provides assurance to employers and those served, and strengthens the standing of mental performance professionals in multidisciplinary performance settings.”

Ongoing Commitment to Quality and Public Trust

The reaccreditation milestone reflects AASP and CSPA’s dedication to advancing mental performance consulting as a recognized profession grounded in evidence-based practice, ethical conduct, and public accountability. The CMPC certification program will continue to evolve to reflect best practices, address emerging needs, and foster the highest standards among mental performance consultants.

About the CMPC Certification Program

The Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) credential demonstrates mastery of competencies in applied mental performance consulting. It is designed for professionals with graduate-level education in sport science, psychology, or a clearly related field who meet defined knowledge, experience, and ethical standards.
