What kind of car do you drive?: The relationship as a vehicle of positive change in collaborative alliances
Joe Mannion*, Fontbonne University, USA; Chelsi Day*, Athletic Mind Institute/Matrix Psychological Services, USA
Reviews (Norcross, Beutler, & Levant, 2005; Sexton & Whiston, 1994) have strongly suggested the quality of therapist-client relationships has been a key determinant of positive outcomes; yet, the dynamics of these relationships are often sidelined in favor of focusing on interventions. The purpose of this workshop is to examine dynamics of high quality consultant-client relationships and to give participants opportunities to practice building positive working alliances in order to improve the efficacy of their interventions.
