Diversity Month Announcements - July & August

Greetings AASP! In the month of July, we honored Nelson Mandela International Day on July 19th. Check out this article for information on “How Nelson Mandela Used Sport to Transform South Africa's Image”. July 26th is Disability Independence Day, where we celebrate the positive psychological benefits of service dogs. Learn more from the American Kennel Club. July 30th is the International Day of Friendship where we denounce discrimination and fight for social justice and change. Also, keep an eye out for this month’s tweets and other news related to diversity days and months.

In August, we recognize the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples and learn how sports' team mascots can be dehumanizing to communities from The Hill. On August 12th, we celebrate International Youth Day. Check out Positive Coaching Alliance's approach to integrating fun into youth sport programs. World Humanitarian Day is on August 19th. Let us reflect on how sport can support global goals for peace and change. August 26th is Women’s Equality Day; learn more about A Mighty Girl and their collection of books about past and present "sheros" in sport that help pave the way for women’s equality.  Also, keep an eye out for this month’s tweets and other news related to diversity days and months.
