Greetings AASP!

March is Women’s History Month. Started in 1987, Women’s History Month recognizes the valuable contributions of women to history and culture. March is also National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. For more info, visit https://nacdd.org/ddam/. March 21 celebrates one of the most colorful religious festivals in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka called ‘Holi’. International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 8 in honor of women’s rights and achievements. March 17 was St. Patrick’s Day in honor of the patron saint of Ireland. Lastly, International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated on March 31.

April is Autism Awareness Month. National Autism Awareness Month strives to raise awareness of developmental disorders; April 2 marks World Autism Awareness Day. April is also Diversity Month. Started in 2004, Diversity Month recognizes and honors the principles of inclusion and rejoices the differences in us all. Please revisit AASP’s webpage on Diversity and Cultural Competence and read the Position Statement on Human Diversity. April 6 is National Tartan Day commemorating the Scottish Declaration of Independence. April 7 is World Health Day. This year’s theme is Health for All. April 8 is Buddha Day and signifies the birth of Gautama Buddha. Good Friday is on April 19. It is a day of fasting and penance for many Christians. April 22 is Earth Day. Earth Day advocates the protection of the environment and all its vital resources.
