September & October Diversity Month Announcements
Greetings AASP! September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month! To learn more about Hispanic culture and history please check out this PBS Timeline and the Biography.com List of Hispanic Athletes. September 21st is the International Day of Peace. Check out the IOC’s Peace through Sport page.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The theme for 2018 is “America’s Workforce: Empowering All”. October is also National Bullying Prevention Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and LGBT History Month. Celebrate the iconic figures in LGBTQ+ history; visit stopbullying.gov; and check out the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence to learn how you can make a difference.
Celebrate International Day of Nonviolence on October 2nd, World Mental Health Day on October 10th, National Coming Out Day on October 11th , Spirit Day (Anti-Bullying) on October 16th, and the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17th. Also, keep an eye out for the Diversity Committee’s September and October tweets and Facebook posts.
