New Research Grant - Call for Proposals

Expansion of sport psychology employment opportunities in North America
AASP is looking for proposals to conduct a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods study on the prevalence and types of sport psychology positions during the past 5 years (2014-2018). Findings will be used to formally substantiate (or refute) what exists only as anecdotal information at present.
Studies from the late 1990s and early 2000s suggested that the number of jobs for graduates in the field were limited. Over the last decade, the employment picture has improved considerably, with increased hiring by professional/elite teams, collegiate programs, youth teams and non-sport populations, such as the military. The types of jobs seem to be shifting as well - during the past 2 years, the number of applied positions posted in AASP’s Career Center has exceeded the academic ones.
AASP will provide logistical support by assisting in the surveying of U.S. and Canadian members electronically and in-person at the 2019 conference. The study’s conclusions should help forecast employment growth in the field over the next 5 years. We expect the work to be published in the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology and presented at a future AASP Annual Conference.
