Overview
In this presentation, two practitioners who provide sport psychology/mental training services to Paralympic athletes will share their unique and shared experiences in working with athletes who have disabilities.
Topics will include:
- Background and literature on presenting concerns relevant to athletes who have disabilities
- Performance and clinical concerns during the quad and at the Paralympic Games
- Similarities and differences between Olympic and Paralympic athletes
- Factors that influence intervention goals, techniques, and approaches to working with this population (including challenges and complexities)
- The development and application of an emerging model of U.S. Paralympic sport psychology service provision
