Overview
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing how mental performance services are delivered, documented, evaluated, and scaled across sport and performance settings. While these tools offer new opportunities to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and insight, they also raise important ethical, professional, and practical questions for Certified Mental Performance Consultants® (CMPCs).
This webinar will explore how AI can be thoughtfully and responsibly integrated into applied mental performance practice as a support tool, not a substitute for the practitioner’s expertise, judgment, relational skills, or ethical decision-making.  Drawing from applied practice, CMPC mentorship, and graduate-level instruction, the presenters will examine real-world uses of AI across assessment synthesis, intervention planning, documentation, reflection, supervision, and program management.

The session will emphasize ethical considerations, scope of practice, data privacy, and professional boundaries, while highlighting strategies for maintaining the human-centered foundation of effective applied work. Special attention will be given to ethical considerations including confidentiality, informed consent, data governance, academic integrity, scope of practice, and the responsibilities of CMPC mentors and educators guiding students and early-career practitioners in AI use. Examples will span collegiate, Olympic, professional, private practice, and academic training contexts.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to evaluate AI tools, modeling ethical use, integrating them intentionally, and leveraging technology to enhance, rather than diminish, the impact of CMPCs.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify current and emerging applications of artificial intelligence relevant to applied mental performance consulting across sport and other performance settings.
  2. Evaluate key ethical considerations related to confidentiality, informed consent, data security, scope of practice, and professional responsibility when integrating AI into CMPC work.
  3. Differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate uses of AI, recognizing when it serves as an adjunct support tool versus when it may pose ethical, professional, or competency risks.
  4. Apply practical decision-making frameworks and modeled strategies to responsibly integrate AI into applied practice, mentorship, supervision, and graduate training while maintaining professional standards, academic integrity, and a human-centered approach.
