Bob Harmison, President-Elect
Robert (Bob) Harmison, PhD. is the Kibler Professor of Sport Psychology in the Department of Graduate Psychology at James Madison University, the Director of Sport Psychology for JMU Athletics, and the Director of the Challace J. McMillin Center for Sport Psychology at JMU. In these roles he teaches/advises/supervises sport psychology graduate students and conducts sport psychology scholarship, provides sport psychology services to JMU athletes and coaches, and directs sport psychology outreach programming to the surrounding athletic community.
Bob received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas in 2000 and an M.S. in Exercise and Sport Sciences (Sport Psychology) from the University of Arizona in 1994. He has been a CMPC® since 2002, achieved AASP Fellow status in 2015, is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sport Psychology and Mental Training Registry, and is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Bob has been providing sport psychology services to high school through elite-level athletes and teams for the past 25+ years, including the 2002, 2006, and 2010 U.S. Olympic Snowboard teams. Other highlights include being a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee sport psychology staff (1997-1999) and providing consultation within the Kansas City Royals minor league organization (2004).
Bob has been a continuous AASP member since 1993, serving the organization in several instrumental roles related to the certification program. Most notably, he was the Chair of the Certification Review Committee (2012-2014), a member of the Interim Certification Council/Certification Council (2016-2019), and the Professional Standards Division Head (2016-2019).
