Bio

Dr. Matthew Condie is an Australian-trained and based clinical psychologist and with a Doctorate in Sport and Performance Psychology. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). He currently teaches in the Department of Sport Psychology Graduate Studies at the University of Western States and is adjunct faculty at the University of Adelaide and Central Queensland University. He consults with individuals and teams from community-level participation to Olympic and national-level competitions. He is a sport psychology registry member for the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), a mental health service provider for the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), and a consultant for Google's well-being and resilience initiative.

Dr. Condie's research interests sit broadly under the umbrella of positive psychology, identity, resilience and well-being. Within this, I have been part of research projects exploring psychological safety and team learning in sport, athletic identity, self-awareness and well-being, gender euphoria and well-being, resilience in health care workers, components of self-determination in secondary education, and neurodiversity.

Matt emphasizes educational excellence and leading contemporary education, training, and consultancy. Taking pride in his professional identity as a “pracademic” (a blend between a “practitioner” and “academic”), His approach to sport and performance psychology is succinct and offers easily understood explanations of key mental skills. His evidenced-base and eclectic experiences working with individual athletes and teams, focus on an individualized approach to making athletes the experts in their mental health, well-being, and performance. Matt works with early career clinical, sport and performance psychology practitioners in building confidence and competence in their provision of psychological services.

With any individual and team that he works with, Matt balances autonomy with accountability, focusing on respecting the relationship, education, skill acquisition, and reflective practice. He considers this necessary in fostering self-awareness, self-management, and resilience.
