Bio

Kelsey Varzeas, Ph.D., CMPC, (she/her/hers) is a research scientist and clinician with Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Under the direction of Dr. Tiffany Stewart, she investigates female athlete resilience and well-being, eating disorders/disordered eating in sport, and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). In her work, she acknowledges the unique social, cultural, physical, and mental stressors that athletes face. She aims to unite the separation between the sport and clinical worlds.

Kelsey completed her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from The Ohio State University defending her dissertation titled, “Thinness is Far Too Glorified”: Stories of Stress, Coping, and Body Image as Told by Female Collegiate Endurance Athletes. She received her Master of Education degree with a specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology from Boston University.

Kelsey has been providing sport psychology services to athletes, teams, and coaches since 2015. She has a particular interest in the intersection of athletics, mental health, body image, eating disorders, and disordered/disconnected eating.
