Bio

Dr. Jacob C. Jensen is an Associate Professor at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and teaches courses in sport psych, imagery/visualization, and psychology of injury. He is also the sport psychology director and consultant on staff for CSUN MATADOR ATHLETICS and oversees 300 D-I student athletes and 17 teams. He received his doctorate in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport and exercise psychology from the University of Tennessee. He also received his master’s degree from the University of Utah with an emphasis in the psycho-social aspects of sport. He graduated from California Lutheran University with a double major in English and French before switching his career path to sport psychology. His current research interests include applied mental skills training to combat anxiety in performance settings, strategies for overcoming the “Yips”, and mindfulness training for athletes and performers. For his dissertation, he conducted a year-long ethnographic study of the psycho-social aspects of professional tennis players competing on the International Tennis Federation’s Pro Futures Tour. Prior to coming to CSUN Jensen taught qualitative research method courses in the educational psychology department at the University of Tennessee, and then spent one year as an assistant professor of sport psychology at Cal State, Chico before coming to Northridge. His hobbies include tennis, working out, hiking, traveling, and enjoying the many outdoor activities and weather of Southern Cal.
