Bio

Abby helps athletes improve themselves and their performance through mental skills coaching. She believes that we are all capable of achieving our version of success - and sometimes we need guidance and support along the way to develop new skills, strategies, and perspectives.

Abby has had the privilege of supporting hundreds of athletes as a mental performance coach since 2011, including youth, collegiate, age-group, and professional athletes in a variety of sports. In her private practice, Intrepid Performance Consulting, LLC, she specializes in online, one-on-one mental skills coaching for student-athletes in high school and college (along with their parents) as well as masters endurance athletes, particularly swimmers, runners, and triathletes. Most often, Abby helps athletes learn how to persist through performance anxiety and perfectionism - and show up as a more authentic version of themselves in the process.

Abby also serves as an Adjunct Faculty member and CMPC Mentor in the Sport and Performance Psychology Department at National University's JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences, where she mentors graduate students in their pursuit of the CMPC credential.

Previously, Abby served as a Cognitive Performance Coach for US Army Special Operations Soldiers at Fort Bragg, NC. While there, she designed the cognitive training curriculum for the Psychological Operations Qualification Course, taught learning and memory strategies within the Special Operations Language and Combat Medic schools, and created team building events for operational units. She earned her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia and M.S. in Educational (Sport) Psychology from Florida State University. Abby is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) in addition to being certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid and holding the Georgia Afterschool & Youth Development credential.

Outside of the field of sport psychology, Abby has gained experience in facilitation, team building, and leadership development through work with a youth development and substance abuse prevention non-profit, being a staff member for a summer youth leadership camp since 2009, and as a challenge course facilitator. She incorporates these elements into her work, integrating purpose, hands-on activities, various instructional styles, and reflection to make a lasting impact.

Abby believes in working with others to positively impact the field of sport psychology, and has served in a variety of roles within AASP: chairing the Web Presence Committee (2018-2020) and Webinars/Virtual Conference Committee (2022-current), participating in the development of two Strategic Plans, writing and reviewing exam questions for the CMPC certification exam, reviewing and updating the CMPC Job Analysis, and being an active member of the Business Ownership and Study and Practice of Supervision Special Interest Groups. Abby regularly speaks at conferences and has been a contributing author for three textbooks.

More recently, Abby co-created Project E with Dr. Lindsey Schriefer to support current and aspiring mental performance entrepreneurs. Project E offers a free guide to explore business ownership, a comprehensive online course to build a mental performance business, and a monthly e-newsletter, with more to come! More information can be found at www.projecte.biz.

Abby lives with her husband, John, and two young boys in the greater Atlanta area, where they love getting outdoors, hiking, and filling their home with music, good food, reading, and play time.
