Overview
Effective gatekeeping within CMPC mentorship is essential for upholding the standards of the sport and performance psychology profession. During this webinar, the presenters will explore the critical role that CMPCs and approved mentors play in guiding the next generation of practitioners through structured, ethical, and context-specific mentorship (e.g., academia, private practice). Attendees will learn to identify their unique responsibilities as gatekeepers within diverse settings—academia and/or private practice—and examine how thoughtful gatekeeping promotes the professional integrity of the sport and performance psychology field, as well as client well-being.

Participants will leave with tools to create effective mentorship structures that foster competence, accountability, and growth. Additionally, the webinar will address how to navigate common challenges that arise in the gatekeeping process, such as performance concerns, ethical dilemmas, or interpersonal conflicts.

This session aims to support attendees in developing intentional and proactive approaches to mentorship. Through this discussion, we seek to strengthen our collective responsibility in maintaining the profession’s credibility while nurturing future professionals.
