Dr. Sarah Castillo is a Professor of Psychology at National University in San Diego, CA. She is the academic program director for NU’s BA Sport Psychology program and the Co-Director of NU’s Center for Performance Psychology. In addition to her academic appointment, she is an Assistant Coach for Point Loma Nazarene University’s Women’s Volleyball team. Sarah’s passion is working with individuals and teams in their search for peak performance in any area of life. She began her career as a Performance Enhancement Instructor at the United States Military Academy, West Point. During her time with the Army, Sarah worked extensively with over 15 intercollegiate, intramural, and club athletic teams. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) and an AASP Fellow.
Sarah has been a member of AASP since 1995, when she attended her first conference in New Orleans, LA. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Idaho. During her time at U of I, Sarah was the graduate assistant for the AASP Certification Review Committee, then chaired by Dr. Damon Burton. It was in this role that she began to develop her professional identity as both a member of the organization and a champion of AASP’s certification efforts. Sarah has served AASP as a member and chair of the Certification Review Committee, and a member of two Strategic Planning Committees, the Future of Certification Ad-Hoc Committee, the Interim Certification Council, and the CMPC® Reconsideration Committee. She is also past chair of the Graduate Program Committee.
