Bio

Dr. Stephen P. Gonzalez is an Assistant Athletic Director for Leadership and Mental Performance at Dartmouth College and a private practice consultant to athletes and performers. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor of Sport Psychology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. Prior to his position at Brockport, Dr. Gonzalez was the Lead Performance Expert at Fort Stewart in the U.S. Army's Comprehensive Soldier and Family Fitness (CSF2) program and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences Department at Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA. Dr. Gonzalez's experience in sport and performance psychology spans a decade. Dr. Gonzalez obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with honors from the University of Pittsburgh, his Master of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology with a specialization in Sport Psychology from Georgia Southern University, and his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Exercise and Sport Science with a specialization in Psycho-Social Aspects of Sport from the University of Utah. While at Utah, Dr. Gonzalez was an instructor for three years in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science where he taught sport psychology and sport sociology classes. Since obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Gonzalez has presented over 15 papers at national and international conferences, published research studies, and wrote a book chapter on consulting with diverse populations in sport. Prior to working for CSF2, Dr. Gonzalez’s mental training clients included athletes competing at the Olympic Trials in both the summer and winter games, collegiate athletes in a variety of sports, high school athletes, professional orchestra performers, and coaches. A former NCAA Division I runner, Dr. Gonzalez remains a competitive distance runner and has completed two Boston Marathons. Dr. Gonzalez loves to cycle, play golf, hike and camp, travel, and participate in and watch almost any sport.
