Bio

Dr. Valerie Valle is a clinical psychologist who specializes in sport and performance psychology at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She is the consulting sport psychologist for IMG Academy where she is primarily responsible for providing individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and consultation services for a diverse, student-athlete population.

Dr. Valle assesses and treats a broad range of issues affecting adolescents including: Adjustment disorders related to acute stress; attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; eating disorders; and mood disorders such as anxiety and depression. She works from a cognitive behavioral therapy orientation and integrates insight-oriented, mindfulness, and humanistic and existential therapies to help student-athletes maximize their potential and increase quality of life.

Dr. Valle received her PsyD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Sport & Exercise Psychology from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of California, Riverside. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Student Health & Counseling at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Valle also holds a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Florida.

Dr. Valle has presented at various national conferences on the topic of student-athlete mental health. She spent 10-years working with Division-I NCAA athletes, and she has worked with professional athletes across various sport backgrounds. Dr. Valle is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) with the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. She is listed on the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry. She is also on the directory of mental health service providers for the National Basketball Players Association.

Dr. Valle holds membership and serves in leadership positions in various professional organizations including, the Association of Applied Sport Psychology, the American Psychological Association-Division 47, and the Florida Psychological Association.

Dr. Valle is also a lifelong athlete who enjoys competing at regional, national, and international sporting events in swimming, cycling, and triathlon.
