Dr. Alan Chu is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and a member of the USOPC Sport Psychology and Mental Training Registry, working with athletes and coaches from high school to professional levels on performance and personal excellence.
Dr. Chu is an expert in the areas of motivation, mindful self-compassion, positive psychology, psychological skills training, and coaching and coaching education. He produces publications for both research and practice in these areas (see https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Alan_Chu4 for details).
Dr. Chu is passionate about applying science to practice while considering the cultural background and intersectionality of his clients. He is very open to working with athletes and coaches who are underrepresented or in nontraditional sports.
Dr. Chu has been highly involved in sports and was a five-sport high school athlete and a collegiate athlete. He still competes in table tennis (not the basement ping pong!) and serves as an internationally certified coach. He currently teaches the coaching certification course for the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association and serves on several committees within the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
