Greetings AASP!

January is Poverty Awareness Month. Learn more about budding gentrification in college sports by reading this Forbes article, Using Sports To Get Out of Poverty Doesn't Work When You Have To Be Rich To Play. January 20 is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Listen to Dave Zirin’s interview with Professor Louis Moore to learn more about Dr. King’s legacy of sport and politics in America. January 27 is the International Day of Commemoration in memory of victims of the Holocaust. On this day, we ask you to take a moment to visit this visual retrospective on Jews and Sport Before the Holocaust.

In February, we celebrate Black History Month to offer tribute to the peoples of the African Diaspora. We invite you to read Steve Wulf’s Athletes and Activism: The Long, Defiant History of Sports Protests
