CMPC Certification Council Announces Changes to K2: Sport Psychology and Minimum Grade Requirements

Two changes have been made to the Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) coursework requirements going forward:

Effective February 1, 2023, a minimum of three (3) course/educational experiences are required to fulfill Knowledge Area 2: Sport Psychology of the Standard Practitioner requirements as described below. For sport psychology courses that do not adhere to one of the descriptions below, applicants must submit documentation (e.g., course syllabus) for the course(s) to be considered.

Exemptions will be made for: (a) degree seeking applicants enrolled in an area clearly related to sport science or psychology graduate program prior to January 1, 2023 or (b) postgraduate professionals who can document completion of any K area course(s) in pursuit of CMPC certification between January 1, 2019 and January 1, 2023.  Click here to see examples of areas of study that are considered clearly related to sport science or psychology, and those that are not considered related.

K2 Sport Psychology Knowledge Area (minimum 3 graduate classes):

  • Required Course #1: Theoretical foundations of the psychological processes that influence human performance in sport
  • Required Course #2: Psychological techniques and interventions to enhance performance in sport and other domains (e.g., performing arts, military)
  • Required Course #3: Advanced or supplemental course related to the science and/or practice of sport psychology (e.g., exercise psychology, psychology of injury, team dynamics, youth sport, and/or psychology of coaching, etc.)
In addition, effective July 1, 2023, all coursework must be completed with a C or better.
